Glory to Jesus Christ!

Glory to God forever!

Welcome to the home page of the website of St. Basil Antiochian Orthodox Church in Metairie (New Orleans), Louisiana. We are a parish in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, an Archdiocese of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East.

Our patriarch is His Beatitude JOHN X, Patriarch of Antioch and all the East. Our Metropolitan is His Eminence the Most Reverend Metropolitan JOSEPH, Archbishop of New York and Metropolitan of all North America. Our Diocese is under the omophorion of His Grace the Right Reverend Bishop ANTOUN, Bishop of the Diocese of Miami and the Southeast.

Locally, our parish is pastored by the Very Reverend Father Peter Nugent.

The initial mission work for our parish began in the late 1970s by the Very Reverend Father Michael Welborn, of blessed memory. The Very Reverend Father Stephen Hardy, also of blessed memory, was our first full time parish priest.

Our members come from across the world. Among the many Orthodox countries, they hail from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia, Greece, as well as the United States of America. About half of our members are cradle Orthodox while the other half are local converts from Roman Catholicism or Protestantism.

As a multi-ethnic, Orthodox Christian parish, we welcome persons of all walks of life. Whether you are visiting the New Orleans area or, as a resident of our great city you are looking for a new church home, we welcome you.
